The Civics Bee, which is hosted by the Opelika Chamber of Commerce, is open to 6th–8th grade students. Students participate by submitting a short essay on how they can make a difference in their community.

Key details for 2026:

• Student essay portal opens: September 8th, 2025

• Competition structure: Regional (this is us) → State → National in Washington, D.C.
• Prizes: Regional winners receive up to $500 / state winners up to $1,000  PLUS…this is new this year - $5,000 donation for their school / national prizes include a $100,000 529 college savings contribution.

Beyond the prizes, students gain invaluable experience in civics, writing, public speaking, and leadership.
