A Word from Mr. Reed

Parents and students, as February draws to a close, please be reminded that course selections for classes next year will be in the next few weeks.

In the 9th grade, all students will take Biology. AJHS does offer two different Biology courses - Grade Level Biology or Advanced Biology. If a student wants to take Advanced Biology, there are a couple of requirements that must be met. Students interested in taking Advanced Biology will need to have a 93/A ending average in Physical Science, or higher, and receive a recommendation from their current Physical Science teacher.

If you meet these qualifications, once the school year begins, students are not allowed to change courses or move to Grade Level Biology. There will be summer reading assignments for this course and a test on those assignments on the first day of the class. This class moves at a faster pace but does offer more lab settings. Also, students can early a .5 quality point for their Grade Point Average. So, if a student makes an A in Advanced Biology, they will earn a 4.5 for their GPA. If a students takes Grade Level Biology and they make an A, they receive a 4.0 for their GPA.

If you have questions about Advanced Biology, or any Advanced classes for next year, parents can attend a Lunch and Learn session on March 3rd in the MMR at 11:30. More information will be located on the AJHS Website or on ParentSquare. You can also contact your counselor for more information.
