2026-2027 AJHS Bands Informational Update

Posted Date: 07/24/26 (08:29 AM)

Greetings AJHS Band Parents & Students!

Dr. Wine here from the AJHS Bands! I hope this message finds you and your families staying cool in the heat this Summer. This will be the first of what will eventually be regular posts keeping you up to speed on information surrounding the AJHS Band Program. We are so excited to get started and start making music again! Make sure you look over this information carefully - it will help us get a great, smooth start to the year!

First Things FIRST - Checklist of things you can do THIS Summer:
  • Make sure your student gets that instrument out and plays (play anything!) and make sure it's working well
    • ***Summer is also a great time to clean your instrument (especially brass players!)
  • Mark your calendars for the most important events of the year (see below)

AJHS Band Parent Meeting (IN PERSON)
We will have an IN PERSON meeting for all AJHS Band Parents this year on TUESDAY evening, August 11th at 6:30 PM in the AJHS Auditorium. We need at least one parent from each household to join us (students are not required to be there, but they are welcome if they want to come).

Come meet (or re-meet) Dr. Wine and learn about how best to support your band student this year. We want to empower you to be confident, knowledgeable support systems for these amazing musicians (especially if you are not a musician yourself)!

AJHS Band Rosters Posted Online
Our audition results/rosters for 2026-2027 (including Jazz Band) can be found on our page on the website AuburnBands.org/ajhs

***Note: When you eventually see your student's schedules in PowerSchool, they may appear as having a different name than what appears on our rosters/what WE call the bands. Don't panic! This is just the way the classes have to be "coded" on the computer system. We will ensure everyone is exactly where they need to be.

***Note: There is no roster on our band website for Percussion - all Percussionists are simply in Dr. Wine’s Percussion methods class (just like at ESS) and will be paired with an ensemble later in the year.

Supply List
Attached to this post is the Band Supply List for the 2026-2027 school year. Please look carefully at the items required of ALL band students AND supplies that are instrument-specific. Do your best to have students ready with all supplies for the start of school or at least get them ordered and on the way. The list also includes some optional things that would work great for future gift ideas or upgrades as your student progresses.

Instrument Rentals
Instrument rentals will be processed on the first few days of class for students needing to rent an instrument from AJHS. We typically supply Oboe, Bassoon, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Euphonium, and Tuba. If you have any questions, please let Dr. Wine know.

AHS Marching Band Students
All questions or concerns from 9th-grade marchers and parents regarding the AHS Marching Band and its activities should be directed to the AHS Director of Bands, Mrs. Deanna Marshall – dfmarshall@auburnschools.org - This will ensure you get the quickest and most accurate answer to your question.

Once School starts, there will be an athletic bus that will transport 9th-grade marching band students who need a ride to AHS on afternoons when we have rehearsals. Marching Band students who need to use this transportation will meet Dr. Wine in the band room immediately following school on the first day this will be needed (Monday, August 10th), so he can guide students to where this bus will load.

Support the Auburn Band Boosters Association (ABBA)
As parents of band students, you are already valued members of the Auburn Band Boosters Association (ABBA). This 501(c)3 non-profit organization exists to support ALL the band programs at ESS, AJHS, and AHS.

We need your help! If every band parent would volunteer at ONE AHS varsity home game at the concession stand, we would easily have all the help we need. No experience is needed; just come and be willing to lend a hand! Don’t wait, get involved today and do your part! Keep an eye out for volunteer information coming soon!

Sponsorships - If you own or know of a business that would like to sponsor the AHS Marching Band, or if you are a family that would like to sponsor-- please be sure to check out the ABBA page on auburnbands.org/abba for opportunities to volunteer to support our bands.
